Computer Sciences, CDIS, and OpenAI shape the AI future with SAIL

As artificial intelligence continues to transform the global workforce, the University of Wisconsin–Madison’s Department of Computer Sciences is taking bold steps to ensure students are not just prepared for the future—they’re empowered to shape it. Through the Summer of AI Laboratory (SAIL), a new initiative spearheaded by Professor Remzi Arpaci-Dusseau, Grace Wahba Professor of Computer Sciences and Director of the School of Computer, Data & Information Sciences (CDIS), undergraduates were immersed in real-world AI development, hands-on mentorship, and cutting-edge tools. Supported by OpenAI and built on a foundation of collaboration, innovation, and technical excellence, SAIL reflects the department’s commitment to providing transformative, industry-connected experiences that equip students to lead in the AI era.
