CS Professor Somesh Jha named distinguished alumnus from IIT Delhi

Somesh Jha headshotComputer Sciences Professor Somesh Jha has received a Distinguished Alumni Award from the Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi) in recognition of his outstanding achievements in teaching and research. Jha joins a prestigious group of alumni from IIT Delhi who have made important contributions in science and technology, corporate governance, and public and social science. The award will be presented at IIT Delhi on November 13, 2021.

Jha earned a B.Tech degree in electrical engineering from IIT Delhi. He went on to earn an MS in computer science from Pennsylvania State University and a PhD in computer science from Carnegie Mellon University. Prof. Jha recalls his time at IIT Delhi very fondly: “IIT Delhi was an extremely vibrant and intellectually brilliant place. Of course, the professors were great, but I learned as much from my brilliant classmates and classes. My time at IIT-Delhi profoundly shaped me for the rest of my career.”

Jha is a Lubar Professor of Computer Science in the Department of Computer Sciences at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He studies security and formal methods, particularly trustworthy machine learning. He is an ACM and IEEE Fellow and has received several other awards, such as the CAV award for his contributions in verification.
