Sowmya Subramanian
Sowmya Subramanian is the Executive Vice President of Engineering at Warner Brothers Discovery (WBD), where she is responsible for accelerating the technology transformation and building the next generation of media streaming experiences. With over 25 years of experience in the technology industry, Sowmya has won several leadership and technology awards for her innovative product and technology experiences, scaling globally distributed organizations, and fostering a fast-paced and inclusive culture.
During her tenure at WBD, Sowmya has driven the launch of Max in the US and LATAM markets, brought D+ internationally, and established a “One WBD” data and machine learning vision. Her engineering and organizational leadership were instrumental in landing the industry’s biggest mergers smoothly. Prior to WBD, Sowmya spent 15 years at Google, where she led the charge in defining Google Search’s path to modernize and transform its ecosystem strategy, founded and grew YouTube Kids, YouTube Music, YouTube Live and YouTube paid subscriptions, lead Google’s first foray into User-Generated Content with Google Maps, and spearheaded Inclusive Design.
Sowmya serves on several boards, is active in women in technology efforts and earned her bachelor’s degree in Computer Science at Mount Holyoke College and her master’s degree in Computer Science at the University of Wisconsin, Madison.
