WACM (UW Madison's student chapter of ACM-W) will hold the repeat WACM Explains: Basic Linux next week on September 14th (Friday) 5:30 - 7:00 pm in CS 1240. There will be two identical sessions; this is the second of the two sessions.
WACM has traditionally helped all CS students to be more prepared for their introductory CS courses by holding this workshop that teaches some of the basic Linux commands. This workshop is open to all students. The goal is to build practical familiarity with the Linux environment and use the university machines to create and test assignments. Here's what WACM has taught in previous semesters: http://research.cs.wisc.edu/wacm/docs/WACMExplains-IntroToLinux.pdf
Many CS students specially enrolled in 300-500 level courses typically find it useful to have someone walk them through the similar commands.
P.S.: For the students, “Bringing your laptop and trying the Linux commands during the event would be very helpful.”
