At Nextpoint, all team members take-on important roles in the delivery of critical solutions to critical clients, while supporting our cloud-based offerings. The role will embed you with a talented small software development team, identifying, planning, and executing tasks that deliver real value to our clients. You will play multiple roles and contribute to our mission: delivering software solutions to connect clients with their data. The right candidate will be well versed in web development technologies and object-oriented programming. Strong communication skills, creative thinking, ownership, passion, team-commitment, and diverse engineering skills are highly valued by the Nextpoint team.

What is a typical day?

  • Propose and execute changes to Ruby application code.
  • Deliver wins for our clients, ensuring data is moving properly through our systems.
  • Experience working with an agile team, with a mix of local and remote teammates.
  • There is such thing as a free lunch - we buy and bring it in daily.

This is who we want to work with:

  • You are not afraid to handle time-critical tasks.
  • You communicate well with others, working iteratively to interpret and execute diverse project requirements.
  • You examine processes and tasks that you find yourself repeating; implementing changes to automate and increase efficiency.
  • You take great pride in your work and your own continued learning.
  • You have ideas and the confidence to contribute.
  • You go the extra mile to assist and improve both the systems you support and the co-workers you build them with.

What is in it for you?

  • An awesome team.
  • You will learn a ton. Guaranteed.
  • You should work for at least one small team early in your career.
  • A development environment that encourages self-improvement and learning.
  • An environment where you can make a real impact.

    Qualifications:

  • Recent CS (or similar) graduates -or- those graduating in December 2018. (Interested in an internship instead? Ask!)
  • Self-motivated, with strong oral and written communication skills
  • Great team member. Take responsibility and work collaboratively
  • Ability to work and remain positive under time constraints
  • Report to the Nextpoint Lab, located in downtown Madison, WI. (protip: if not currently local - explain why you are applying in your cover letter)
  • Experience with object-oriented programming (Ruby).
  • Experience with relational databases (MySQL).
