= Mesh is Out of the Closet = Jorjeta Jetcheva, Firetide Mesh Networks == Abstract == We are witnessing the first wave of successful commercialization of mesh networks on a large scale. At Firetide, we have seen mesh sales in the millions of dollars, deployments all over the world, and projections of the size of the mesh market in the hundreds of millions. The availability of commodity broadband wireless hardware along with the ever increasing need for ubiquitous and affordable broadband connectivity has pushed mesh out of the research closet and into the real world. My talk will include an overview of the unique features and technology evolution of Firetide's mesh products, the types of scenarios in which we have seen the most significant demand for mesh networks, some of the more interesting and significant deployments we have done, and what we have learned along the way. == Bio: == Dr. Jorjeta Jetcheva is a Systems Architect at Firetide, Inc., where she is responsible for driving the evolution of the core mesh technology of the company. Dr. Jetcheva has been involved in ad hoc and mesh networking research since 1997, with a focus on the design, analysis, simulation and measurement evaluation of routing protocols and mechanisms. Dr. Jetcheva is a member of the IEEE 802.11s (mesh) Task Group, and is a co-author of the 802.11s standard draft. She has participated in the IETF MANET working group and has authored Internet-Drafts on unicast, multicast, and broadcast routing in mobile ad hoc networks. Dr. Jetcheva has published her work in the premier research conferences and journals in the field of mobile and wireless networking and has served on a number of Technical Program Committees and Advisory Boards including IEEE SECON, IEEE ICDCS, IEE Mobility, and IEEE COMSWARE. Dr. Jetcheva received a Ph.D. in Computer Science from Carnegie Mellon University's Computer Science Department in 2004, defending a dissertation titled "Adaptive Demand-Driven Multicast Routing in Multi-Hop Mobile Ad Hoc Networks". She received a B.A. degree in Computer Science (summa cum laude) and Mathematics from Mount Holyoke College.
