The mathematics department has recently completed the reform of its Honors Calculus sequence. The sequence is now formed by the following courses --

Textbooks: both Volumes of T.M. Apostol "Calculus"

Math 275: First semester Calculus, covering essentially the same topics as 221 but with emphasis in understanding, depth and concepts. Roughly Chapters 1-6 in the first volume.

Math 276: Second semester Calculus. Roughly the same material as 222 same emphasis as above. Chapter 7,10-14 with additional notes.

These two courses receive intermediate credits.

Math 375: Topics in linear algebra and Multivariable calculus. It covers linear algebra (and some matrix theory/problems) and some multivariable Calculus. Chapters 1,2,3,4,5,8,9 of the second volume.

Math 376: Topics in Multivariable Calculus and differential equations. It covers most of the remaining multivariable calculus and differential equations. Roughly chapters 10,11,6 and 7, second volume.

These two courses receive advanced credits.

The four courses are five credit courses, with Honors credits available. They need consent by the instructor or the previous course in the sequence as prerequisite. Math 375 was previously numbered 277 and Math 376 is a new course. Students cannot get credit for both 340 (or 320) and 375. They can take 319 and 376 since 376 presents no applications of differential equations, only its theory. These changes will take place starting Fall 2000 and they will be included in the electronic timetable in a week or so.

Math 375 will follow math 277 schedule in the time table. The time for math 376 will be: lectures are MWF 11 am, discussions TR 11 and 12:05.
