CSL Wireless Network
Introduction
The CSL Wireless Network is designed to allow users access to Computer Science network resources as well as the Internet, from a laptop using an 802.11 wireless ethernet card.
In order to protect our resources and be able to identify and isolate problems, authentication will be required to access any network services. In addition, some CSL network services (such as printing) will be provided via transparent proxies, to minimize the inconvenience for users.
SSID Or Wireless Network Name
The wireless SSID for the Computer Science wireless network is
COMPSCI-1X (for 802.1X authentication) or
COMPSCI for browser based authentication.
Authentication
The preferred authentication method is
802.1X, using the
COMPSCI-1X network. To set up 802.1X authentication, follow these
Instructions.
To authenticate to the network using a web browser, open up a browser window for any site (you may need to refresh the page). It will redirect to a page asking you to log in with your CS username and password. Once logged in, you should have access to the wireless network.
Network Configuration
Computers on the wireless and laptop network should be setup to use DHCP for network configuration (a dynamic IP address will be assigned). See the previous FAQ entry for information on the SSID in use on the wireless network.
Printing From The Wireless Network
A user of the CSL Wireless Network can print to CSL printers after they are authenticated. The authentication gateway will add your user identification information to printing requests. If you have a print quota, your quota will be charged for pages printed.
To print to a CSL printer, choose an OS:
