Window Managers

The CSL has installed multiple window managers that you can use on your UNIX account. To find out how to use a particular one, go to their home page or check out the local documentation. Users are welcome to use other WM's, but since switching or configuring window managers is a very complex and individualized task, the CSL will not be able to help you should problems arise as a result of the switch. If you make a mistake and mess up your configuration, you can get a new set of dot files with the newdots command.

Also note that development has stopped on some of these projects. As a result, the version installed may be very old and buggy.

Gnome

Gnome is the window manager currently supported by the CSL and is the default for new accounts.

FVWM2

FVWM2 is more basic then other options, but it's also much faster on older computers.
