Mozilla

Mozilla is the CSL's standard recommended newsreader. It is a lightweight newsreader best suited to text groups. It is available on all Unix and Linux workstations in the department. For more information, please visit the Mozilla Home Page.

Pine

PINE: (Pine Internet News and E-mail, from University of Washington) includes a powerful newsreader component. Some configuration may be necessary, please visit the PINE home page for more information.

PAN

In addition to the standard newsreader features, Pan supports yEnc, offline newsreading, article filtering, multiple connections, and more features for power users and alt.binaries fans. For more information, please see the PAN home page.

rn

rn was one of the first newsreaders for unix. Originally written by Larry Wall (creator of perl), rn is now maintained by Stan Barber. Please see the rn home page for more information.

trn

Trn is "Threaded Read News", a text-mode newsreader based on Larry Wall's "rn" with a bunch of improvements, including some scaning and scoring features contribued by Cliff Adams (from his strn work). More information can be found at the Trn's home page.

xrn

XRN is a program for reading News via NNTP on a UNIX machine which supports the X Window System. XRN is maintained by Jonathan Kamens. For additional information, please visit the xrn home page.
