TIP AFS fileserver reboots, upgrades

  • All AFS file and database servers will be down for reboots and reconfiguration beginning at 4pm. We are reserving the entire 4pm - 8pm window for this activity, although the actual outage will likely be between two and three hours.

  • Users may notice 'Connection timed out', 'Lost Contact with file server', and similar messages during the outage. In addition, all project volumes and all user home directories will be inaccessible at some point during the outage.

8 pm - Midnight

  • No downtime scheduled

Lab Maintenance Window

In order to minimize the unpredictable disruptions of the Computer Sciences department network, the lab has established a number of "maintenance windows".

The primary maintenance window is Sunday from 4pm to 8pm. If possible, all planned downtime and potentially disruptive maintenance and reconfigurations will be scheduled in this time window. Other maintenance windows include 8am to noon, noon to 4pm, and 8 pm to midnight. Planned activities which we think will take longer than 4 hours will be scheduled for multiple maintenance windows. Information about scheduled downtime will always be announced in msgs as far in advance as possible.

The current schedule will be avaliable via WWW (http://www.cs.wisc.edu/CSDocs). It will not be possible to schedule all downtime during these windows. When possible, we will give advance warning and choose times that we think will disrupt the minimum number of users.
