End of Semester Announcements (May 2006)
Instructional Accounts
As the end of the Spring semester approaches, many students have asked the
Systems Lab about their CS instructional accounts. Here is some
important information about the end of the semester:
- CS instructional accounts (accounts created
explicitly for students taking CS courses) will
remain active until the course add deadline for the Fall Semester.
- If you register for a CS class for the Summer or Fall
semester, your account from the Spring semester will remain active
(with disk and paper quota adjustments). Initial course paper
quotas from the Spring semester (paper that you did not purchase)
will be removed shortly after May 17. Remaining paper that you
purchased will be carried over for future use.
NOTE: Only CS courses taught by CS faculty and
staff are considered CS courses for purposes of CS instructional
computing resources. In particular, cross-listed classes that are
primarily taught in another department (such as Math/CS 240 and
ECE/CS352) do not qualify for a CS Instructional account.
- Accounts of declared undergraduate CS majors will remain active.
- New CS Majors will be added or have their account status changed
based on data we receive from the registrar
after exams, once a week during
summer session, every day during the first two weeks of classes
in the Fall, and once a week during the Fall semester.
- Special instructional accounts (accounts given to specific students
for course projects on computers other than the instructional
workstations) will be removed after May 17. If you need to keep
your special instructional account, you MUST have your faculty
member request an extension on or before May 17.
- If you are continuing your course work or project you MUST have
received a grade of "Incomplete" to otherwise retain your
instructional account and course-related resources. Your instructor
MUST report the incomplete to the lab on or before May 17.
- New CS alumni -- students graduating at the end of this semester can
request an Alumni Account, using the form on the CSL web pages
(http://www.cs.wisc.edu/csl).
Note: You must request an alumni account before the end
of exams in the semester in which you graduate.
- Your use of the CS instructional facilities must be in accordance
with the CSL Policies on Instructional Computing In particular, you
may not use your account for any commercial activities nor for
class work or formal research projects outside the CS
department. Requests for additional resources or support for
non-course work will be rejected.
