Condor Workload Management System
What is Condor?
Condor is a specialized workload management system for compute-intensive jobs. Users submit their serial or parallel jobs to Condor, Condor places them into a queue, chooses when and where to run the jobs based upon a policy, carefully monitors their progress, and ultimately informs the user upon completion. For more information on Condor see the
Condor Home Page or send mail to
condor-admin@cs.wisc.edu.
Why is Condor Running on My Machine?
Condor runs on most of the supported workstations in the department. Anyone in the department can submit condor jobs. The cycles provided by desktop workstations are an important department resource that helps your fellow grad students and faculty members with their research. However, when working properly condor should only have a minimal impact on the performance of your workstation. If you're seeing otherwise please contact
condor-admin@cs.wisc.edu.
If you do not want condor running on your workstation, please contact
condor-admin@cs.wisc.edu. They should remove it from your workstation at your request.
Condor is Slowing Down my Machine
If condor is affecting the performance of your workstation, please send mail to
condor-admin@cs.wisc.edu. The condor team will work with you solve the problem. If necessary, condor can be turned off on your workstation.
Can I use Condor?
Yes! The Condor pool is a public resource that can be used by anyone in the department. Check out the
UW Condor Pool Information Page for instructions. If you have any questions be sure to contact
condor-admin@cs.wisc.edu. The CSL does not maintain the CS Condor pool.
