HCI graduate student featured in New Scientist

Sean Andrist, a PhD student working on human-computer interaction and computer animation with Professor Bilge Mutlu and Professor Michael Gleicher, is included in a March 19, 2014 story in New Scientist, "The Robot Tricks to Bridge the Uncanny Valley."  Andrist and other researchers are developing ways to give robots human-like mannerisms that make humans feel more comfortable interacting with them.  Computer Sciences undergraduate researcher Zhi Tan also contributed to this work, which was carried out jointly in the Wisconsin Human-Computer Interaction Laboratory and Visual Computing Laboratory and funded primarily by the National Science Foundation.
