THE FIFTEENTH INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON MACHINE LEARNING
July 24-26, 1998
Madison, Wisconsin, USA
The Fifteenth International Conference on Machine Learning (ICML-98)
will be held at the University of Wisconsin, Madison from July 24 to
July 26, 1998. ICML-98 will be co-located with the Eleventh Annual
Conference on Computational Learning Theory (COLT-98) and the
Fourteenth Annual Conference on Uncertainty in Artificial Intelligence
(UAI-98). Seven additional conferences, including the Fifteenth
National Conference on Artificial Intelligence (AAAI-98), will also be
held in Madison (see http://www.cs.wisc.edu/icml98/ for a complete list).
Submissions are invited that describe empirical, theoretical, and
cognitive-modeling research in all areas of machine learning.
Submissions that present algorithms for novel learning tasks,
interdisciplinary research involving machine learning, or innovative
applications of machine learning techniques to challenging, real-world
problems are especially encouraged.
Authors must submit five (5) hardcopies of their submissions, as well
as a copy of their title page via electronic mail. The mailing

Submissions must arrive by *** March 2, 1998 ***,
acceptance decisions will be mailed by *** April 17, 1998 ***, and
camera-ready copies will be due by *** May 11, 1998 ***.
A copy of the title page should be sent via electronic mail to
icml98@cs.wisc.edu by *** February 27, 1998 *** (note the date).
The title page should accompany each hardcopy submission, in addition
to being sent through electronic mail. The title page, both the
electronic and hardcopy versions, should be formatted as follows:

PLEASE SEND YOUR TITLE PAGE AS PLAIN ASCII.
(Do NOT send postscript, Latex, Microsoft Word, etc.)
Submissions (including the title page, figures, tables, and
references) must not exceed *** 16 pages ***. Please start the body
of your paper on page 2, but you need not repeat the title, abstract,
etc. on that page. Staple all 16 pages together. Submissions with
text on both sides of each page are encouraged.
Submissions must be formatted as follows: 12-point font (except for
references, which can be formatted in a 10- or 11-point font),
single-spaced (Baselineskip = 0.1875 inches or 0.4763 cm), a maximum
per-page text width of 5.5 inches (14 cm), and a maximum per-page text
height of 7.5in (19 cm). In the interests of fairness, if the Chair
believes that a submission violates these requirements or exceeds 660
square inches or 4256 square centimeters, then that submission will be
rejected without review.
Simultaneous submissions to multiple conferences are allowed, as long
as this is clearly indicated on the cover page.
