Assignment 1 - Play a Game!

Yes, you have just been asked to play a game for college credit!

Spend some time playing a game of your choosing. Pick something that appeals to you. You can spend more time with something that you've already played, or pick something new. While I encourage you to pick something that either is playable in a browser (yes, this is a big genre of games) or at least downloadable (either a free game, or playing an available demo), you don't have to.

Then, write a review of it. A review should talk about what the game is, and what is good and bad about it. Please include anything that you feel is important to tell someone who has never played the game before. You don't need to write the extensive in-depth treatises like on a game review website, but you do should cover the high points.

You will need to put the review on the Wiki. (see below)

Game reviews are an important part of the gaming industry. But, there are actually other reasons that I want you to do this.

Objective (why are you doing this assignment)

Foremost, to spend a little time to remind yourself why we're doing this (putting lots of energy into learning about games).

Second, I actually want you to think a little about what makes a game good or bad. So we can talk about how technology plays a role in this (or doesn't).

Third, its a chance to force you to try out using the course Wiki so we can work out the bugs in the mechanics. There is info on how to use the course Wiki here, but for this assignment:

1. You need to contact the TA. He will set you up with a wiki account and password, your own personal page group and pub directory, and give you an initial page in your page group.
2. Create your review as a page in your page group (I recommend calling it "Assignment1"). On this page, you need to include at least 1 picture that you've put on the web by putting it in your pub directory.
3. Create a link to your page on the page at AllStudents.Assignment1. If all goes according to plan, that page will have links to 16 assignments (as well as my sample).

Yes, we'll probably run into glitches with using the Wiki, but the hope is to work those problems out sooner rather than later.
