The following courses are available for research that is mentored by
a CS professor.
Undergraduate Research
CS 699 Independent Study - sign up for this if you are an undergraduate
working on research.
Graduate Research
CS 790 Master's Thesis - sign up for this if you are working on your
master's thesis or project. If the applicable procedures outlined in the
Graduate Guidebook are followed, up to 6 credits of thesis work may be
counted counted as core course credit toward the M.S. degree.
For a master's project up to 3 credits may be counted as
core credit toward the M.S. degree.
CS 799 Master's Research - sign up for this if you don't already have a
master's and are doing research. You can use this before your master's
thesis research. Check the guidebook for the rules on procedures
and eligible credits toward your master's graduation requirements.
CS 899 Pre-dissertator Research - If you have completed your master's
and are working toward a Ph.D. but are not yet in dissertator status sign up
for this one.
CS 990 Dissertation Research - for persons who have passed preliminary exam
and completed the Ph.D. minor. At this point you are a "dissertator" and
required to take 3 dissertator credits each semester.
CS 999 Independent Study and Research (Dissertators) - A second option for
dissertators. This can be graded A-F, or taken for Satisfactory/Unsatisfactory.
It can ONLY be taken by people in dissertator status.
