Description:

This panel is designed to help undergraduate female computer science students imagine a career in Computer Science and/or the Information Technology profession.

Listen to a panel of experts -- real Madison women who are working in the technology field -- tell their personal stories. Why did they enter this field? What do they like about it? What do they dislike? How did they get to where they are now? Audience participants will have a chance to ask questions like 'How did your education prepare you for your career?' and 'What do you wish you had known when you were still in school?' and 'Did you have any mentors or others along the way that helped you at critical moments?'

Panel members are all currently employed in the technology field in Madison, Wisconsin. They have a wide range of experience and backgrounds -- some have degrees in computer science and some do not. Some have roughly two decades of professional experience and some have fewer than five years. Some are currently in leadership positions and some are strictly technical. Some are actively writing software and deploying to production environments, some are more involved in training efforts, and some are more involved with interactions between customers or end-users. Some work for large companies, some for small companies, and some have been self-employed as consultants for a variety of companies. Some have been in the technology field for their entire careers, others more recently joined the technology field and brought with them strengths from their prior career interests.
