Directions to the CS Department at the University of Wisconsin - Madison

Location:

The Computer Sciences Department is located at 1210 West Dayton St., Madison, WI 53706. A general contact number is 608-262-1204. The computer science department office is on the fifth floor in room 5355.

A campus map is available. This detailed map shows the location of the Department of Computer Sciences which is located in the tall diagonal building (#28) across the street from the very tall building #11. A map maintained elsewhere shows the whole campus and surronding area maps and allows you to navigate around by clicking on the map. Also, there is a general street map with a star at where the computer science building is located (It is a static copy of a Mapquest page).

Directions:

If you are outside of Madison you are likely to take I-90 to Rt. 12/18 West. This is known locally as the Beltline.
Take the Park St. exit and go north/east (right at end of ramp). Details: This exit is about 6 miles from the I-90 & Rt. 12/18 junction. It is exit 261. Park St. is also know as Rt. 14 East.
Make a left onto Regent St. Details: After exiting onto Park St., continue about 2 miles. You will pass W. Washington Ave which comes in diagonally from the right. Next you go by a hospital on the left with two pedestrian overpasses across the road. Make the next left at a light onto Regent St. There is a left hand lane cutout.
Make a right onto Mills St. Details: This is the second right after you turn onto Park St. It has a traffic light.

Option 1 for daily parking.

Make a left into lot 51. Details: Lot 51 is a large lot only a block up from where you turn onto Mills St. This is normally where visitors have a permit to park. You must have a permit to park in any lot except at meters. You can easily walk to the computer science building by going north on Mills St. (the direction you were going before you turned into the lot). In a block and a half turn left onto Dayton St. The building is in the block just past Charter St on the right hand side of the street.

Option 2 for coming straight to the building.

Make a left onto Dayton St. Details: Dayton St. is at the first traffic light.
The building is 1 1/2 blocks up on the right.
Short term parking near the building. Details: Go past the computer science building. Very soon you will pass a driveway on the right which is one way the wrong direction. Continue a little further to a right hand driveway. Turn right. Curve around the drive. There are a few short term (25 minute) meters available. If you turn the knob without inserting money you should get 10 free minutes.
