Data Mining and Knowledge Discovery
Special Issue Call for Papers
Impacting Patient Care by Mining Medical Data
---------------------------------------------
Automated medical data analysis is becoming increasingly important in
healthcare. Several factors have been vital in reaching this point:
the rapid increase in the amount and diversity of the data
collected/stored, the creation and proliferation of medical knowledge
sources, and the opportunity to employ large processing power to
analyze this data. These three factors place medical data mining in a
unique position to truly impact patient care now using data that is
readily available.
Topics include but are not limited to:
+ Biomedical data mining
+ Combination of structured and unstructured data
+ Clinical trials
+ Data and knowledge representation
+ Differential diagnosis
+ Disease detection
+ Disease management
+ Efficient algorithms for processing medical data
+ Exploiting genomic data in patient care
+ Knowledge acquisition
+ Mining large unstructured data sources (images and text)
+ Outbreak detection
+ Patient care and outcomes
+ Quality improvement
