Knowledge has been described as a critical competitive asset for

organizations. The most important strategy in business is converting

knowledge into intellectual capital and leveraging it for competitive

advantage. The International conference on Knowledge Management in

Organizations (KMO) provides an international forum for the presentation and

discussion of research on information and knowledge management, as well as

to shed light on recent advances on data and knowledge bases. The aim of the

conference is to identify challenging problems facing the development of

future knowledge management systems, and to shape future directions of

research by soliciting and reviewing high quality, applied and theoretical

research findings. This conference calls for papers that offer provocative,

insightful, and novel ways of viewing KM from a wide variety of

perspectives, especially regarding new trends in knowledge management.

Authors are invited to submit original, unpublished research papers that are

not being considered for publication in any other forum. Papers cannot

exceed 8 pages in length. One author per paper is required to register and

attend the conference to present the paper if it is accepted for

publication.

Authors of selected papers will be asked to expand versions of accepted

papers in a special issue of the International Journal of Web Engineering

(IJWET), published by Inderscience.

Topics of interests include, but are not limited to, the following areas:

- Application of knowledge representation techniques to semantic modeling

- Design methodologies for KM

- Data and knowledge sharing

- Domain modeling and ontology-building

- Knowledge discovery in databases and data mining

- Development and management of heterogeneous knowledge bases

- Technologies and tools for KM

- Inter-institutional collaboration and information exchange

- Operating in the global knowledge economy

- Cross-cultural aspects of global KM practices

- The use of semantic webs for KM

- Use of web services for KM

- How to bring together KM, distance learning, and human performance

enhancement to build an integrated learning organization

- How to build and maintain viable KM architectures and thriving communities

of practice

- Intelligent and ubiquitous KM

- Networking with knowledge

- Shared knowledge in business networks

- KM for SME

VENUE

Slovenia is a small, beautiful European country on the sunny side of the

Alps which geographically and politically has always been a part of Central

Europe. Everything in Slovenia is in abundance: the majestic Alps with their

glacial valleys, rivers, and lakes, plenty of forests, mysterious karst

caves, the warm Adriatic. From the steep slopes of the Alps you can reach

the world of olives and vineyards in less than two hours. Slovenia's natural

features and cultural and historical sites offer plenty of variety for a

holiday. Maribor lies close to the Austrian border in the middle of

Slovenia's wine-growing region and is surrounded by vineyards to its north

and east, and by mountains (with ski slopes) to its south and west. It is

proud to be the home of the world's oldest (over 400-year-old) vine-tree,

recorded in the Guinness book of records. The Drava River flows through the

town. On its banks, called Lent, the young people (by age and by heart) of

Maribor and surroundings, socialize in many pubs and restaurants. The

history of Maribor is rich and is reflected in many buildings dating back to

the 13th century. The town has also a modern face; a university, theatre,

shopping centers, recreation - all within walking distance. The conference

will take place in the Hotel Habakuk conference center.
