DDoPS-06 Submission date: March 5th, 2006 ****************************************** Development and Deployment of Product Software June 5-6, 2006, Luxembourg Co-located with The 18th Conference on Advanced Information Systems Engineering (CAiSE2006) Workshop description and overall objectives Usage of standard software products is an everyday phenomenon all over the world. Text editing, bookkeeping, project management, and manufacturing cannot be thought of not to be performed using of-the-shelf products, where just some years ago many organizations had tailor made software to support these tasks. Thousands of companies, such as Microsoft, SAP, Oracle, and Business objects, have been established worldwide to develop and market these software products. Product software accounts for substantial economic activity all over the world, according to the Organization for Economic Co-Operation and Development (OECD). In 2004 the total market of the product software industry was estimated to be 65.34 billion Euro, which is just 11.0% of the overall Western European ICT market of 594 billion Euro. We define a software product as a packaged configuration of software components or a software-based service, with auxiliary materials, which is released for and traded in a specific market. This implies that a software product may include code, executables, and web pages, but also user manuals, training material, brochures and the like. The squeezed concurrent development of these artifacts and their packaging for a certain target market are aspects that distinguish product software development from tailor made software. Today, very few scientific studies are reported on the development and deployment of product software in particular. We claim that a scientific body of knowledge for product software still has to be accumulated in the years to come. The objective of the second DDoPS workshop is to provide a forum for researchers active in this area to exchange ideas and publish results. Topics of interest include: - Requirement Management - Architecture evolution of software products - Design of software products - Software coding conventions - Test strategies and tools - Configuration management and delivery - Documentation, internationalization, and translation - Call management and maintenance organization - Component off the shelf (COTS) - Application Service Provision (ASP) - Open source development and integration - Product definition and project management - Product families and product strategies - Software process and quality - Organization strategy - Implementation models and methods - Business-IT alignment - IT project management - IT business value and metrics - Case studies and industrial reports. Note: All topics are to be understood in relationship to the definition and development and deployment of product software. Papers Submission The workshop committee solicits papers in the research and practice of the development and deployment of Product Software. Papers should not exceed 5,000 words. They must be original and not submitted to or accepted by any other conference or journal. To encourage industrial participation we also welcome short position papers (1 or 2 pages). Papers should be submitted in electronic form (PDF preferred!) to the organizers (see underneath). During acceptance process that at least one author must register for the workshop or conference prior to the deadline. Workshop organizers: Prof.dr. Sjaak Brinkkemper, Universiteit Utrecht, NL Dr.ir.
