Seeking undergraduate assistant
The Pepperell Lab in the Microbial Sciences building is searching for a computer science undergraduate student to assist with Systems Administration. The Pepperell lab is a bioinformatics/ computational biology research group focused on infectious diseases. We are looking for students graduating on or after May 2019. The applicant will work alongside the current System Administrator initially with the aim of assuming full responsibility in subsequent semesters.
The position is open immediately but we will also consider students who would need to start later.
Responsibilities: Day-to-day administration of Linux servers
Maintain and improve a cluster of servers running HTCondor
Assist researchers with using computing resources
Create and modify scripts to work with lab servers
Install software from both Linux software repositories and from the source code
Skills: Experience with Linux setup and administration Familiarity with the Linux command line environment Shell scripting and Python experience preferred, other languages beneficial Desire to learn about and work with a variety of Linux software, including systemd, btrfs, NFS, HTCondor, Ansible, and more
