It would be helpful if condor_submit_dag had a version display-and- 
exit option, similar to condor_dagman -v.

This sounds like a reasonable idea. I'll assign the ticket to Kent  
Wenger, because I think he's the right person. Kent--am I correct, or  
should it be someone else? Perhaps Pete Keller?

This is done for 7.2.1.  The only caveat is that you have to spell out at 
least -vers, because we already had a -v[erbose] flag in 
condor_submit_dag.
