The condor 7.2.0 release notes indicate that the default universe was
changed from Standard to Vanilla. However, the example config files
released with 7.2.0 still indicate the previous default, e.g.,

# condor_version
$CondorVersion: 7.2.0 Dec 19 2008 BuildID: 121001 $
$CondorPlatform: X86_64-LINUX_RHEL3 $

# grep "it chooses" /usr/etc/examples/*
/usr/etc/examples/condor_config.generic:## for the job to use. By
default, it chooses the "standard" universe.
/usr/etc/examples/condor_config.submit.generic:## for the job to use.
By default, it chooses the "standard" universe.

Thanks.

In addition, the commented out defaults disagree with both the release
notes and the example configuration file comments, i.e.,

# grep ^#DEFAULT_UNIV condor_config.*
condor_config.generic:#DEFAULT_UNIVERSE = grid
condor_config.submit.generic:#DEFAULT_UNIVERSE = globus

However, this might be a feature rather than a bug. Generally
speaking, is the value of commented out variable settings in the
example configuration files meant to represent the default settings?

Thanks.

The release notes are correct in this case.

In general, yes. Thanks for pointing out these discrepancies. I'll
correct them for the next Condor release.

The discrepancies mentioned above have been fixed in the code for v7.2.1
and all subsequent versions. In addition, we are fixing up a few
additional places in the manual (like the condor-submit man page).

We are resolving this ticket.

regards,
Todd
