In this talk we will discuss preconditioning and the iterative solution of KKT systems (saddle-point systems) and draw together applications in Optimization and the partial differential equations (PDEs) describing incompressible fluid flow. These ideas will be developed for more challenging flow control problems in which such PDEs provide constraints for the relevant optimization problems.
